My M2: The Perfect Everyday Companion with a Racing Spirit

Why the M2

The M2 came into my life in 2020, with just 22,000 kilometers on the clock. It was my very first BMW M car—a milestone for any car enthusiast. Funny enough, I originally had my heart set on a 335i with the legendary N55 engine. To me, it’s the best-sounding turbocharged inline-six BMW has ever made. But when the M2 was released, I was instantly drawn to its design.

The classic coupe silhouette, the aggressive stance, and those wide fenders—it’s a car that demands attention. To me, the M2 feels like a spiritual successor to the E46 M3 in many ways, which only deepened my connection to it.

Why the Original M2?

When I bought my M2, I had the choice between the standard N55 version and the more hardcore S55 variant in the M2 Competition. I deliberately chose the N55 model for its sound and its link to my original dream of owning a 335i. There’s something soulful and raw about this engine that the newer models, while faster, just don’t quite capture.

Everyday Hero

Since I brought it home, my M2 has been by my side every single day. It’s my daily driver, my road trip partner, and even my workhorse. With the rear seats folded down, I’ve hauled furniture, renovation materials for my apartment, and all kinds of gear. Despite racking up over 105,000 kilometers, it hasn’t let me down. Well, almost—there was that one time the horn stopped working and an occasional issue with the rear turn signal. If anyone has a fix for that, feel free to reach out!

Maintenance has been simple: regular oil changes, fluid and filter swaps, and the usual brake and tire replacements. The dual-clutch transmission (DCT) has been rock-solid, and it’s a dream to drive both in the city and on the highway.

Modifications and Track Adventures

Though I keep it stock in terms of power, I’ve made a few tweaks to enhance its performance and personality:

  • Remus Exhaust System: A sound upgrade to match its aggressive looks.
  • Eibach Lowering Springs and Spacers: For improved handling and a meaner stance.
  • GTS Software: Adjustments to the gearbox, differential, steering, and traction control for a sharper, more engaging drive.

The M2 isn’t just my daily driver—it’s also a reliable track companion. While it’s not a dedicated track car, it handles itself well on the circuit with minimal mods. I’ll share more details about the upgrades and track setup in a separate blog post, so stay tuned for that!

Why I Love It

The M2 is more than just a car to me. It’s the perfect blend of everyday practicality and raw driving excitement. Sure, the power figures might not seem mind-blowing by today’s standards, but the way it drives, especially through corners, is pure joy. Modern cars might be quicker, but there’s something timeless about the M2 that always puts a smile on my face.

If you ever spot me at a track day, don’t hesitate to say hi—or even ask for a passenger lap. This car loves to share its magic, and so do I!
